Renewable energy introduction target

Renewable energy target at Fukushima Prefecture

With the goal of meeting the prefecture's entire energy needs through renewable energy by around 2040, the increased introduction of such energy sources is actively promoted, and a centre and other initiatives will foster, and help integrate, relevant industries.

Fukushima prefecture is the preferred place of renewable energy

REprojection
Before the disaster(2011), one third of the metropolitan area electricity was supplied by Fukushima, and the electricity transmission network had been implemented.

Fukushima is the third largest prefecture in Japan and has diverse resources (solar, wind power, geothermal power, water resources, forest resources, etc.) and has great potential for introducing renewable energy.

Signing of the memorandum with the Danish ambassador to Japan

Fukushima Prefecture has signed memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the field of renewable energy and energy saving with the Ministry of the Environment of the state of North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW) and the Embassy of Denmark in Japan.
By making use of their advanced knowledge and experience in those fields, Fukushima Prefecture aims to adopt renewable energy and develop relevant industries.

MOU with NRW

As part of the promotion of renewable energy and  medical industry fields in the prefecture, we are promoting collaborations with overseas countries. We concluded a memorandum of understanding with the State of Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany in the fields of renewable energy and medicine in 2014, and since then we have been promoting business exchanges. We renewed the MOU in January, 2017 for cooperation of the renewable energy industries, and in August, 2017 for cooperation of the medical industries. As part of this an agreement was made to strengthen the support system for companies in both regions. When the governor visited Germany in January, he met with influential figures of the state government including the prime minister of NRW. They both committed to further strengthening cooperation between Fukushima Prefecture and NRW as well as deepening exchange between both regions. By utilizing the robust network with NRW, we will wholeheartedly support efforts by local companies for expanding  market opportunities in Europe, Germany and throughout the world.
